FOUND OBJECTS – POPCANS

I I had been covering surfaces with circles in both the series of Dot Drawings and the Plain Song series of paintings to the extent that I had developed a heightened awareness of circles as a motif. Whenever and wherever circles popped into my field of vision I saw them. I noticed most particularly in the Spring of 2003 that the melting snow revealed circles everywhere in the form of smashed popcans. I went for daily walks and gathered the thousands that went into the making of this work. Sadly the best source for a quick few bags full was outside the nearest elementary school. The breakdown was one third Pepsi, one third Coke and one third everything else. The cans’ colours generated the Blue, Red and White series.
